Back in Rukanga

Hey everyone,

Just a quick post: We have our teaching schedule! 2 days a week in Bungule and then jumping around to the other 4 primary schools on the other days. We will be staying busy during the weekends and busy teaching during the week.

We took a big hike (African hike=bushwhacking up AND DOWN) up the hill behind our banda where the baboons hang out. We got scraped and scratched up a ton, but it was fun. Didn't see any baboons while we were up there, but when we went down, they climbed about during dinner time. The pictures of the view on the hill are outstanding. We could actually see the curve of the Earth--no joke. Amazing pictures to follow!

We are well fed and well taken care of. My internet is about to run out, just wanted to do a quick post.

We love and miss you all. It was soo amazing to read your comments. We took pictures of the computer screen to show the others who didn't come down to Rukanga. So your messages made it to their recipients.

We love you all sooo much! Thank you so much for the updates.

The next time to get online will probably be next week, so post post post and give us something exciting to read!

Jambo!

  1. Yay, so good to hear your voice this morning Mad. I'll send some pictures to your e-mail. Too bad you can't upload pictures in the short time you have on a computer, but we can wait I guess.
That's great you got your schedules. Are you alternating subjects? What do the people do for fun where you are staying? What do most people do for a living? How far away are the schools?

I have Voi weather up on my sidebar, so looks like the weather has been warm, is it also humid there? Well, can't think of any more questions right now. Enjoy yourselves K6!

  2. What a surprise to hear your voice this morning Chanda! I have never been so happy to wake up at 3:30AM to a phone call. Jessie, thanks for sharing your minutes. We will definitely pay that back. I'm not sure what the return call on my end runs but it was worth every minute. I will take your advice and look into "callingcardplus.com"

Thank Abs from the momma's for taking such good care of you at the Banda. Glad you're enjoying running, hiking and biking/grocery shopping. Next time be sure you have functioning breaks....

I looked up Tsavo and that will be an amazing trip when you get back to Voi, rivers, wild life and beauty. I'm so happy to hear there are no mosquitoes and that the temperature is only in the 70's. No bites and no burns sound good. Glad your cold is gone and that you are feeling back to normal.

Can't wait to see your new wraps and other treasures you purchase along the way. I know when you start teaching on Wednesday things will be super busy but contact us whenever you can. I am also glad to know there is a truck to take you to those outer villages that are farther away.

Everyone here says "hi and we love you so much."

  3. What, we can call back? I'd be happy to put $ on a calling card as well, so next time I can wake up for 2 minutes, then talk more.

  6. Chanda this your sister Carmen. Mom said you called at 3:30 in the morning and that she woke me up and I talked to you. I don't think she did the best job of waking me up, because I'm pretty sure I was still sleeping and don't remember ever talking to you or knowing you called haha. Love you next time I will wake up.
